Cultural Preservation & Sports

BRSU empowering Rohingya youth through sports and cultural activities, especially within the refugee camps of Cox’s Bazar. These programs foster identity, resilience, and community engagement in a challenging environment. Sports are a powerful tool for healing, leadership, and social inclusion among Rohingya youth. BRSU and its partners have developed several initiatives, such as:

  • Rohingya Language Classes: Teaching reading, writing, and speaking to youth and children.

  • Cultural Celebrations: Events showcasing Rohingya food, music, poetry, dance, and traditional clothing.

  • Arts & Storytelling Programs: Poetry nights, art workshops, and youthled cultural showcases.

  • Sports & Recreation: Soccer, volleyball, and other sports programs that build teamwork and confidence.

  • Cultural Documentation: Recording oral histories, traditions, and community achievements.

Community Sports in Portland, Oregon

BRSU organizes community sports activities in Portland, Oregon, where many Rohingya families have resettled. We have initiated events such as Friendship Football and Volleyball matches, bringing together Rohingya youth and friends from Somali and Russian communities. These activities create opportunities for young people to connect, celebrate diversity, and explore their new environment in Portland.

These gatherings are more than just games; they are thoughtfully organized events aimed at fostering social cohesion, dialogue, and mutual respect among different communities. Through these activities, we have seen relationships grow stronger, tensions decrease, and youth develop a deeper sense of belonging, teamwork, and unity.

BRSU and its partners have developed several initiatives, such as football, volleyball, cricket, Ci-long, and indoor and outdoor games for women!
